Ep. 37: Blane Blooming

“Fine,” Ash tells me, caving into my request quite reluctantly. “One dance.”

I slide my palm down his wrist, lacing my fingers with his, and using the connection to pull him out onto the dance floor. “It’ll be more than one.”

The music is so easy to slip into, to find its rhythm. To get absolutely lost in.

Ash, on the other hand, is in need of a little more encouragement. I take his hands and place them over ribs. Willing the motion of my own body to pass through to his. And it does. After another moment, his movements become more fluid, like I know they can be. His hands glide down to my waist, thumbs grazing over my hip bones.

Wrapping my arms around his neck, I glide my body closer to his, relishing the thrill that runs through my whole being. His hands move up again, brushing higher than they’ve ever been.

It’s still not enough. I want more of him. For him.

Taking his hand, I coax him into twirling me. But when he pulls me back in, my back is to his chest and my head to his shoulder. With one hand still grasped in his and now twisted across the front of my body, I lift the other to his neck. Slide my fingers up, into his hair.

I feel Ash’s breath hitch, the sway of his hips following mine. He wraps his free hand around my midsection, pulling me tighter against him.

Our bodies following the music together, he presses the side of his face to mine and says in my ear, “What are you doing, Village?”

Leaning my head back, I grin at him and say, “I am persuading you for more than one dance.”

“We made a deal,” he reminds me, even as his hands drift.

“And I am renegotiating,” I inform him.

A slow smirk spreads over his mouth, only visible from the corner of my eye. “Are you trying to seduce me, Village?”

“Was it that obvious?” I ask, hyper aware of how breathless and flushed I am.

“As flattering as that is…” His lips brush my ear, sending shivers down my neck and heating other parts of my body. “...our one song is over.”

Then he’s gone. Moving back to the bar. I blink, trying to recenter myself. Trying to sort through what just happened.

He was into it, right? And he kissed me first that night in his family’s kitchen. Not to mention we just made out again at the top of the stairs.

So, what’s his issue?

I move to follow him and get to the bottom of this, but an arm hooks me around the waist and pulls me against the owner attached to it. I look up, ready to knock my ex over again.

“You’re the alchemist, right?” the fairy asks, black eyes sparkling like a dozen galaxies. His breath smells like berries and a lot of alcohol. “I saw all those clips of you.”

“No,” I say because I already know where this is going. Firmly planting my hands on his chest, I push.
